DOLE Romblon gears up to combat child-labor in Banton

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- Eleven (11) parents of child laborers in Banton Island, Romblon received a livelihood grant with total amount of Php 257,676.00 from the Department of Labor and Employment through its Romblon Field Office last February 24.

In a press release, DOLE-Romblon said that livelihood projects will be implemented through LGU Banton as the Accredited co-Partner (ACP) of the program which aims to improve the lives of child laborers and their families who were profiled last 2021.

According to DOLE-Romblon, each beneficiary will receive various starter kits such as e-loading business, fishing boat, fishing paraphernalia, goods for the sari-sari store, and supplies and equipment for kakanin production.

Present during the awarding of livelihood grant were PESO Manager Emie Liza Ferrancullo, Gary Fano from the Office of the Municipal Agriculture, Sangguniang Bayan Members Jenalin Faderanga and Renato Faz, Senior Labor Employment Officer (LEO) and DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program Focal Person Karen Bugarin and Senior LEO Cristine Espinosa.

The release of livelihood under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) is part of the department's Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) which supports the government's intervention to provide families of child laborers access to decent livelihood opportunities and administers basic knowledge on enterprise management. Moreover, it will improve the socio-economic status of households and provide a brighter future for their children. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA)
