LTFRB-2: PUV modernization program to continue this year

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office 2 said that the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program will continue this year.

LTFRB Region 2 Director Edward Cabase said that the latest issuance of LTFRB Memorandum Circular No. 2023-103 signals that the PUV modernization program of the government will be implemented entire the country.

Cabase said that the traditional jeepneys that are still being used for public transport will be given until June 30, 2023 to operate and the LTFRB will still be giving them provisional authority until the end of 2023.

The regional director also urged the traditional jeepney operators to be members of transport cooperatives to avail of the PUV modernization program of the government.

Meanwhile, Ilagan Public Utility Transport Cooperative President Isaias Baysa expressed thanks to LTFRB 2 and the government lending institutions for their assistance in acquiring modern PUVs which are now operating from the city to various places in the province.

Baysa said there were now 58 modern PUVs plying within the city urban areas and a number of modern PUVs plying from City of Ilagan to some places in the province.

He said the Ilagan Public Utility Transport Cooperative will adhere to the standards set by the LTFRB on the modernization of Public Utility Vehicles for the riding public’s conveniences. (MDCT/MGE/PIA Isabela)
