GENERAL SANTOS CITY (PIA) -- Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio described General Santos City, as “without a doubt, a shining story of success” due to its natural endowments and various development feats.
The vice president told a throng of hundreds of people as she capped the celebration of the city’s 34th Kalilangan Festival and 84th Founding Anniversary celebration at the Oval Plaza on Monday (Feb. 27) being the event guest of honor.
Upon arrival, she immediately shook hands with the city officials and invited guests from Sarangani and waved to the crowd partaking in the festive event.
VP Sara opened her message saying that the celebration itself and the people who happily gathered to witness the event were a clear testament of people's unity and a show of love for their city.
Rationalizing why she described the city as a shining story of success, she said: “Rightly so, because General Santos is located along the tuna highway, a strategic location that makes your marine and coastal habitats such a rich and diverse fishery resource.”
VP Sara hailed the success of the city’s tuna industry, which she said, has resulted in the generation of local employment and has become a source of livelihood to many.
“For many years, your flourishing tuna industry and tourism sector have fueled your prosperity,” she told the crowd as she complimented the local government of Gensan for its efforts and resilience to hurdle various challenges in the past.
“We could list down the four advantages of General Santos City when you look at its traffic, growth, and development. You have top-notch infrastructures, well-designed road network, dynamic government institutions, productive political leaders, and a strong presence and involvement of support of civic society organizations,” VP Sara went on.
