POPCOM 6 steps up adolescents’ health, dev't drive with ‘AHlam Na! 2.0’ mobile app

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Commission on Population (POPCOM) 6 has introduced the “Ahlam Na! 2.0” mobile application during the first quarter Population, Health, and Nutrition (PHN) sub-committee meeting held here on February 28.

POPCOM 6 Planning Officer I Richard S. Magullado noted that the mobile application provides accurate knowledge and relevant information on Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and Adolescent Health Development (AHD).

With the popularization of the recently-introduced application, the agency aims to pioneer government-initiated digital access to health information and services, particularly providing an interactive and engaging platform for adolescents to learn ASRH and AHD information.

Also, Magullado emphasized that the application will be the key to establish an adolescent-centered database containing the basic profile of AHlam Na! 2.0 adolescent users.

Relevant to this, the POPCOM 6  enjoined its  partner agencies and some private

entities to help the agency boost its Adolescent Health and Development Program (AHDP) pursuant to the objectives of the Philippine Population and Development Program (PPDP).

The PPDP is oriented toward the inclusive improvement of family well-being, including that of the individual as the central objective of national development.

Meanwhile, some of the AHlam Na! 2.0 features include interactive games with the presence of “Mahla” which is the application’s avatar, conversational and educational inputs or learnings, variety of games, and inclusion of additional topics on nutrition, mental health, immunization and vaccination, referral services, and directory of service providers.

The application also provides personalized avatars for users while adolescents with “red flags” can be appropriately referred through the data that can be fetched from the game.

While the main target users are adolescents, the POPCOM 6 reiterated that the mobile application is open to all who are willing to learn more and validate their conceptions on ASRH and AHD.

The AHlam Na! 2.0 is currently available among Android users, can be downloaded or can be shared offline through a peer-to-peer file sharing platform such as SHAREit. (JBG/AGP/PIA6)
