2023 Women’s Month celeb starts in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Provincial Government here kicked off the celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month (NWM) in a program at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park, March 6.

In a message, Senior Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member and chair of the SP Committee on Health, Sanitation, and Social Services Dr. Mayella Mae Plameras-Ladislao stressed the need to stand for women’s rights and gender equality.

SP Member Ladislao said that credit and due attention must be given to women and their accomplishments and contributions which had been overlooked in the past but are now recognized and celebrated globally due to consistent efforts to provide them with equal footing in society.

The official then noted that gender equality covers women and everyone else in pursuit of gaining equal access to rights and privileges as enshrined by the new recurring theme until 2028 - “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.”

“WE” in the theme stands for “Women and Everyone,” which signifies the need

for collective efforts of the community in pursuit of gender equality, and “Women's Empowerment,” which is aimed at providing women with equal rights and opportunities through the collaboration of government entities and other duty-bearers.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) believes that with women and everyone in synergy, gender equality and inclusivity, as a building block for growth and development, can be achieved.

The National Women’s Month celebration, first observed in 1988 as Women’s Week, by virtue of Proclamation No. 224, seeks to highlight women’s achievements and provide a venue to discuss gender equality issues, concerns, challenges, and commitments.

To celebrate and strengthen the awareness campaign for women's empowerment and gender equality, the Provincial Government, through the Gender and Development Inter-Agency Committee, will hold a caravan on March 8 from the capital town of San Jose de Buenavista through the municipalities of Sibalom, Hamtic, and Tobias Fornier up to Anini-y, where a program to celebrate

women will be held at the municipal gymnasium.

The Provincial Government and other stakeholders will also bring to the venue services such as free legal consultation, medical mission, livelihood training, civil registration, self-defense training, and many more. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique/Infographics courtesy of Province of Antique)
