SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – Colors and talents filled the streets of this city as the Pindangan Dance Competition was restaged on March 3 after three years since it was suspended due to the threat of COVID-19 virus.
The Pindangan Dance Competition is an annual event in line with the celebration of the founding anniversary of this city.
Twenty groups from the youth sectors, academe, civil society organizations, and barangay representatives participated in the competition.
Six groups competed for the Category A or level for elementary schools; five groups joined the Category B which is for secondary and tertiary schools; and nine groups participated in Category C which is for barangay representatives, CSO, or districts.
Council Mark Anthony Ducusin said the city government is very glad to finally bring back on stage the said annual contest as it showcases the city’s local culture, tradition, and its people’s talent.
“The competition has three elements such as the Pindangan Church or Ruins which is the prestige of the oldest church of the region built in May 6, 1876; the union of places which were formerly in constant danger danger with the pirates -the San Vicente de Valanac and San Guillermo de Dalandang; and the Pindang or the traditional way of preserving the fish caught by the villagers,” Ducusin shared.
A panel of six judges scored the participating groups based on their performance during the street dancing and showdown.
Champions were the Santiago Elementary School for Category A; the BHC Educational Institution for Category B; and Barangay I for Category C.
Runners up were St. Jude Montessori Elementary School for Category A; the Lorma Colleges and St. Jude Montessori High School for Category B; and Barangay Poro, Ayat Ken Laing Pamilya Para Musika Ken Sining, Barangays San Francisco and Catbangen, the Rainbow Youth Club (RYC) for Category C.
Further, special awards were also conferred such as the Best in Street Dancing were the Santiago ES won for Category A; the BHC Educational Institution for Category B; and the Barangay Poro for Category C.
The Santiago ES won the Best in Showdown for Category A; the BHC Educational Institution for Category B; and the RYC for Category C.
The ‘Best in Costume and Props’ were awarded to Santiago ES for Category A; St. Jude Montessori for Category B; and the RYC for Category C.
The award ‘Most Entertaining Groups’ during the showdown were as well given among the Dalumpinas Elementary School for Category A; the BHC Educational Institution for Category B; and the Ayat Ken Laing Pamilya Para Musika Ken Sining for Category C.
Festival queens were hailed from Dalumpinas ES, BHC Educational Institution, and Barangay I.
Trophies and cash prizes were awarded to all winners and special awardees while consolation prizes were given to non-winners. (JCR/MJTAB/CGC, PIA Region 1)
