CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--With a thrust for the proliferation of gender equality and women's empowerment, the Region 10 Gender Advocates (GA-10), kicked off the National Women’s Month with a motorcade where participants wore purple shirts and waved purple flags from Barangay Carmen to Barangay Patag, here, March 1.
With the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) of the Philippine Army and participated in by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-10, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-10, Commission on Human Rights (CHR)-10, Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), Bureau of Treasury, and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-10, the motorcade started from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Villarin Barangay Carmen and ended at the 4ID, Camp Evangelista, where the official ceremony took place.
"I have high regard for women, especially here in Region 10, who are working for good, working for peace, and fighting for development, whichever agency you represent," said Col. Ted B. Dumosmog, of 4ID, PA, during the formal ceremony at the 4ID covered court.
At the ceremony, GA-10 Vice President Fides Teresa M. Cabana and Lawyer Kristine Rosary Yuzon-Chavez talked about why women's month has the theme "WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society."
The speakers urged partner organizations to work together to improve equal rights and inclusion, as well as to build a society where differences in gender, status, ability, or culture don't matter.
"Our absolute aspiration is gender equality—it is the ultimate goal when we advance the rights of women, and this year’s theme is a call for urgent action to double our efforts toward this absolute aspiration," said Cabana.
After the program, there was a Zumba class for an hour, and then there was free t-shirt printing. (GKND/PIA-10)
