CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor laid out prompt and comprehensive actions for families affected by the recent sinking of the MT Princess Empress off the coast of Naujan town.
During the inter-agency meeting held on March 6, Dolor instructed all heads of the provincial government and other national government agencies to adopt systematic steps in accepting and distributing donations to affected families of the incident.
Dolor assured that the provincial government will create protocols for the proper and speedy distribution of donations and other goods with the designated agencies in accordance with the directive to be issued by his office.
Likewise, the governor mentioned the basic needs of affected families based on the recommendation results and assessments made by the experts. Clean water is the primary need of the communities living along the coastal barangays. The governor instructed the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to take charge of supplying potable water to identified residents of the barangays.
For general rehabilitation, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH) as well as Harbor Star, a private company being commissioned by MT Princess Empress, will be responsible for cleaning and containment of the spilt oil.
In the matter of fishing activity, the local chief executive instructed the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), DENR, and PCG in the identification and investigation of various fishing zones in the province.
Dolor ensured the general security and maintenance of peace in the entire province upon directing the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army. (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA)
