KAYAPA, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - -  The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the Pingkian Flood Control Project (PFCP) in this town.

DPWH Regional Director Reynaldo  Alconcel said the more than P19 million PFCP in barangay Pingkian will serve as protection of the villagers  from the damages caused by flooding and will mitigate the risk of loss of life during heavy rains.

He said the retention pond will also help alleviate the impact of flash floods, ensuring that the area's ecosystem is not disrupted.

“The project has already received positive feedback from the residents of Pingkian, who expressed their gratitude to the DPWH and the contractors for their hard work in completing the project. The PFCP is expected to bring a sense of security to the local community, particularly during the rainy season,” Alconcel said.

Citing the 2020 Census of Population and Housing data, he said the project  is expected to protect the lives of 1,652 villagers in barangay Pingkian including properties amounting to millions of pesos.

Alconcel said  the completion of the PFCP is a testament to the government's commitment in improving the infrastructure and the quality of life in rural areas and to promote tourism in the countryside.

He also acknowledged the contractors' hardwork and dedication in completing the project on time and within budget. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
