BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) is all set for the 2023 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill set at 2:00 pm on March 9 with the University of Baguio as the pilot area for the region.
Around 6,000 personnel and students from the 10 buildings of the University will join the NSED thru the conduct of the duck, cover and hold drill and implementation of UB’s evacuation plan for earthquake.

UB will also host the opening program and the ceremonial pressing of the bell for the simultaneous earthquake drill in the region that will be aired live at PIA Cordillera facebook page.
The CRDRRMC with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD – CAR) in the lead, earlier conducted a coordination meeting with the UB management and safety officers, the Baguio City DRRM Office, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection and other council members that will play a part in earthquake drill.
The OCD - CAR presented the background of NSED and its importance in earthquake preparedness while the UB gave a briefing on their prepared earthqiake drill and evacuation scenario.
CRDRRRMC Chairperson and OCD – CAR Regional Director Albert Mogol enjoins regional line agencies, local DRRM Councils, state universities and colleges, government owned and control corporations, civil society organizations and private organizations/institutions to participate in the NSED and have their own duck, cover and hold and earthquake safety drill.
Mogol reiterated the importance of taking into consideration all health and safety protocols in the conduct of in person earthquake safety drill and exercises for the 1st quarter NSED.
The National DRRM Council through the OCD is spearheading the conduct of quarterly NSED in the country. Due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, the NSED in the past past two years was conducted through webinars and limited physical interactions. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
