Cancer survivors to stage zumba for victims of violence

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - An organization of women with breast cancer called "Mga Babaeng may K" (MBK) encouraged the public to support their "Zumba for a Cause" program which will benefit women who are victims of violence.

MBK Founder Imogen Claire Callangan said the program is one of her advocacies and also part of the International Women's Month celebration.

"For a P100 ticket, the target participants or sponsor can join their zumba dance at SM Tuguegarao City on March 17, 2023 at 5 o'clock in the afternoon," she said.

Coun. Claire Callangan invites the community to take part in the zumba as show of support to women who are victims of violence in the city.

While one can benefit from the zumba, its main purpose is to provide financial assistance to victims identified by the Women and Children Protection Desk of Tuguegarao City Police Station.

WCPD Chief PCapt. Rosemarie Taguiam said while there was a decrease in the number of victims of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) last year, there are still unreported cases.

"That is why we continue our advocacy and we reach out to all the barangays and provide them our hotline so that in case they want to report, they can just contact us," Taguiam said.

The PNP assured that confidentiality is highly observed to secure the identity of the individuals involved. (OTB/GVB/PIA Cagayan))
