PIÑAN, Zamboanga del Norte, March 9 (PIA) - It’s that time of the year again where we do the “duck, cover and hold”.

Piñan National High School, where the first quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) is held in Zamboanga del Norte province, received a “job well done” from the responders spearheading the activity.

“This is one of the best earthquake drill that we have done so far. They did an amazing job, although there are some lapses but overall, a job well done,” said Allen Sison, operations head of Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Around 2,300 students participated in the “duck, cover and hold” while 800 of whom joined the succeeding scenarios presented in case an earthquake occurs. The scenarios include high angle rescue, fire suppression and extracation of victims which were participated by various agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, Philippine Coastguard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine National Police, Philippine Red Cross, 97th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, Philippine Information Agency and the local government unit of Piñan.

PDRRMO Executive Director, Atty. Uldarico Ricky Mejorada II said the drill is also a good refresher for the responders noting education as a continuing process for everyone.
