Bacolod City mayor supports 'Paleng-QR Ph'

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- Bacolod City mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez supports the digital payment platform program of the government dubbed "Paleng-QR Ph" during its launch, March 14, at the Libertad Market, here.

Benitez said the platform will make for easy payment, collection and safe keeping of money because when kept in a digital wallet and the cellphone is lost, the money can still be retrieved.

He added that having back one’s wallet and money if lost, is unlikely.

“The city will pursue and encourage the adoption of the platform so that everybody can experience the benefits of this,” he said during the program attended by Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

He noted that with "Paleng-QR Ph," Bacolod would become, not just a smart city as his administration envisioned, but a super city.

Benitez revealed that it is the desire of his administration to embark on making the daily transactions of the people in the city on digital means.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) developed this program that aims to promote cashless payments in markets, transportation, tricycle, and other transactions in the country.

The government has partnered with financial service providers such as paymaya, gcash, LandBank, DBP, RCBC, Palawan, and BDO, among others.

“We are very grateful and supportive of this program because we believe that this is the way to move forward,” he said. (AAL//Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
