DSWD 6 inks usufruct agreement with Pototan LGU

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 6 has signed a Deed of Usufruct (DOU) with the local government unit (LGU) of Pototan, Iloilo for the use of the latter’s property for the establishment of a regional warehouse.

Regional Director lawyer Carmelo Nochete, representing DSWD 6, and Mayor Rafael Enrique Lazaro, representing Pototan LGU, signed the DOU on March 10 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Board Room.

DSWD 6 Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. witnessed the signing.  They were joined by DSWD Assistant Secretary Ma. Evelyn Macapobre and DWSD-6 Assistant Regional Directors Arwin  Razo and Joselito Estember, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office chief Sarah Barayuga and Pototan Municipal SWD Officer Rosalyn Patriarca during the activity.

According to DSWD 6, reports from its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) showed that on July 25 to 28, 2022, a Logistics Capacity Assessment

was conducted at the DSWD Regional Warehouse based in Brgy. Mambog, Oton, Iloilo.

Based on the assessment, the current regional warehouse needs to be standardized to store food items because it has limited space.

Given this, DSWD 6 Disaster Response Management Division decided to explore other options for the acquisition of land and the construction of a standardized DSWD Regional Warehouse.

On February 8, 2023, the LGU Pototan has agreed to a usufruct agreement for a period of 25 years through SB Resolution No. 2023-022.

The land is situated at Lot 434, Brgy. Tumcon Ilaya, a property owned by the local government unit. (JBG/DSWD6/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
