TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - The fire incidents have decreased in Cagayan Valley Region in the first two months of this year, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Region 2 said. 

Major Franklin Tabingo, chief of the Operations Division, said there were only 33 fire cases recorded in January and February this year, lower by 10 percent as compared to the 37 cases of the same period last year. 

He also said that there is a 66 percent decrease in terms of the value of damages recorded with only P5 million during the said period this year as compared to P15 million last year. 

"The main cause of fire incidents in our region is electrical connections. That is why we keep on reminding the public to always check on their electrical installations," Tabingo said. 

He also advised the public to consult registered electricians in their respective communities to check on their electrical connections to avoid fire incidents. 

"Be sure that the person you are consulting is a registered electrician. Always check on their licenses because there are only those who do electrical installations by experience or without proper training," Tabingo added. 

He also stated that as per standard, electrical connections should be inspected every after five years or if there are observed abnormal electrical activities in the homes of establishments. 

On the other hand, the BFP is also conducting the Exit Drill in the Home (EDITH) and also Fire Readiness Among Nannies and Kids (FRANK) exercises to instill awareness and train family members on what do and how to properly evacuate during fire incidents. (JKC/OTB/PIA Region 2)
