CEBU CITY, Cebu March 15 (PIA) -- In line with the observance of "World Water Day" on March 22, the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) has urged its consumers to practice ways on how to conserve water.
During the Kapihan sa PIA program held March 15 conducted by the Philippine Information Agency 7, MCWD officials shared some common practices that the public can do in order to save on their water consumption.
"I-monitor ninyu inyung metro once in a while. Inyu gyung lili-on, kung sakto ba iyang tuyok, kung hinay ba o kusog (You should monitor your water meter once in a while to see if it moves correctly, if it is slow or fast), " said MCWD Customer Care Division Manager Atty. John Dx Lapid.
Aside from regularly checking the water meter, MCWD said that consumers should also check if there is a leak on their water service line to ensure that their consumption only reflects their water usage.
"Ang kanang linya gikan sa inyung metro padung sa inyung balay kinahanglan na ninyung tan-awon ug i-maintain kung wa bay leaking. Ang metro sa MCWD motuyok ra kung agian ug tubig. Hunahunaon natu nga mahal ang tubig mao nang kinahanglan nga magdaginot gyud ta (That line from your meter to your house should be checked and maintained to make sure that there is no leaking. The MCWD meter only rotates when water passes through it. We should remember that water is expensive, so we need to save as much as possible)," added Lapid.
MCWD also encouraged the public to stop making illegal deep wells for the reason that severe water extraction from groundwater can cause seawater intrusion into the groundwater which could greatly affect the water quality.
A total of 270,000 cubic meters per day is being supplied by MCWD across eight LGUs in Cebu, namely: Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Talisay City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Cordova.
They are currently serving over 204,000 customers, comprising 80% households and 20% private and public establishments. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)
