Life of Nunungan mayor to be featured in a biopic film

NUNUNGAN, Lanao del Norte --A reenactment of the real-life struggles and successes of Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay will be featured in a biographical film to inspire people that poverty is not a hindrance to success.

The film dubbed “Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte” showcases how the mayor survived his early life from striving hard to graduate from school with challenges such as rido or family feud to selling ukay-ukay and becoming a great public servant.

The film is directed and written by award-winning Director Neal 'Buboy' Tan. He said they will join the International Film Festival and screen the film in schools. The cast of the movie also went to Nunungan town for the filming.

Actors Jeric Raval and Victor Neri were happy to be part of the film to feature Muslim culture and promote Mindanao.

“Ngayon lang din ako gagawa ng pelikula sa kultura ng ating mga kapatid na Muslim. Isang karangalan na gawin ko ang life story ni Mayor Mamay,” said Raval who will portray the character of the mayor.

Being a proud Mindanaon, Victor Neri also emphasized that Mindanao has a lot to offer and that there are a lot of good stories that can be featured in Mindanao.

“Marami pong magagandang istorya ang Mindanao. Hindi lang naman gyera, hindi lang naman gulo. Yung landscape niya maganda sa camera,” said Neri who will act as the rido rival fo Mamay.

Meanwhile, Ara Mina will portray Mamay's wife. She said she was excited to experience the Muslim culture as it is her first time playing the role of a Muslim.

Moreover, Teejay Marquez, the young Marcos Mamay, praised the beauty of Nunungan. According to him, the film shows the beautiful cinematography of the town and the transformational change.

Also included in the movie are Ali Forbes, Julio Diaz, Devon Sero, Dennis Coronel, Ron Angeles, Shiela Delgado, and Toni Co.

The cast also conducted a shooting at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology where Mamay graduated, and at Cogon Market in Cagayan de Oro City where the mayor sold ukay-ukay. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
