“Hindi man ako ang congressman niyo ngayon, pero ‘yung [legislative] caretaker natin [Congressman Mark Enverga], susundan niya ang mapa na itinalaga natin, (I may not be the serving congressman today, but our present legislative caretaker will sure follow the trajectory of the plans we initiated),” said DSWD Gatchalian, emphasizing that the in-city constituents should continue looking forward to the materialization of more local infrastructure projects under the Multi-Year Program including the Tagalag Road and Boardwalk Extension, Lawang Bato Park and Indoor Sports Center, as well as the Polo Riverside Park.
Arkong Bato is a symbolic welcome arch that bears deeply on the identity of Valenzuela City. Its structural system dates back to the Spanish colonization period when it served as a demarcation between the boundaries of Bulacan and Rizal provinces where the cities of Malabon and Valenzuela previously belonged.
Aside from the heritage arch, the restored monument of Captain Delfin Velilla from the town of Polo Valenzuela who served as one of the war heroes in the Katipunan movement can also be found in the linear park.
Joining DSWD Rex Gatchalian in the inaugural event were Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Emmanuel F. Calairo, and the City Councilors.
Valenzuelanos can now explore and visit the Arkong Bato Linear Park at Marcelo H. del Pilar Street, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. (PIA-NCR)
