Negros drivers get P1M ‘EnTsuperneur’ livelihood assistance

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment Region 6, thru its Field Office here, has turned over P1 million check to United Transport Cooperative (UNETCO), whose members were affected by the sector's transition to the public transport modernization.

The turnover ceremony was held during the launching of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-initiated "Hinun-anon" event in Bacolod City, March 22, which tackled government assistance packages for displaced transport workers and other local stakeholders.

The check  was personally turned over to UNETCO by DOLE Negros Occidental head Carmela Abellar and DOLE 6 Spokesperson John Mandario. They were joined by PIA Officials led by Undersecretary Ramon Lee Cualoping III and Asec. Katherine Chloe S. De Castro.

The activity that drew more than 80 participants interacted with the representatives from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 6, Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6, DOLE and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 6.

Abellar said that out of 190 names of drivers submitted to DOLE 6 for assistance, only 51 individuals, who are all from UNETCO, qualified to avail of the financial aid under DOLE’s "EnTsuperneur" program.

For her part, UNETCO Chairperson Romelie Soliguen said members of their organization are elated and thankful for the assistance which will be of great help to their economically-displaced members.

She said they proposed a rice retailing business with their members as the primary customers but will also make the selling available to the community.

“Hinun-anon” is a PIA grassroots communication project piloted in Bacolod City that will be replicated in other PIA regional offices across the country.

It is designed to provide a venue for government officials and various sectors of the Philippine society to gather and engage in a constructive dialogue and explain government programs aligned to the economic goals of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration.

Meanwhile, Usec. Cualoping stressed that there is a need for PIA to bolster its “Explain, Explain, Explain” the programs, policies and services of the the government to the people so that the same will fully be understood, thereby empowering them through accurate, relevant, and timely information.

He noted that part of a sound democratic process is the availability of a space for dialogue, where government entities and the public are given the opportunity to talk about issues and concerns and thereafter arrive at resolutions for improved service delivery. (JBG/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
