Zambo City prioritizes women’s welfare this women’s month

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Mar 27 (PIA) – The City Government of Zamboanga brings services closer to women and LGBTQ+ community during the celebration of Women’s Month which emphasizes gender equality and inclusive society.

After the kick-off celebration on March 8, 2023 with the conduct of Marcha de Las Mujeres and the continuous support to advance women’s rights in the society by wearing Purple shirts every Fridays of the month in the City Government Offices, more activities are being conducted this month of March. 

A women’s fair and conference on March 27 to 30, 2023 at KCC Mall de Zamboanga Activity Area will be open for everyone to enjoy the government services. Health services booth which includes free cervical/breast screening, HIV/AIDS testing, family planning and wellness services like free haircut, manicure, pedicure and massage.

Moreover, they will also provide free civil registration. Legal services, online assistance and issuance of police clearance, and other livelihood services from agriculture and product displays. Zamboanga City Public Employment Service Office also conducts a one-day job fair to provide job opportunities to Zamboangeños.

Different National and Local Government agencies come together for this 3-day fair that will help promote health and wellness to all women including all genders in the society.

Aside from these services, there are also a conduct of conferences and training simultaneously in the same venue. Talks on mental health, trans congress, digital technology and livelihood training from TESDA skills demo, Agricultural session on KADIWA program and many more topics that will help women cope with their personal challenges and goals.

Further, The Local Council of Women – Zamboanga City Chapter in collaboration with the City Gender and Development Services and Mujer LGBT Inc. conducted an activity with Media Practitioners tagged as “Media Orsem: Towards a Gender Fair Media” held on March 18, 2023.

The activity aims to address issues and concerns pertaining to media reporting and as well as capacitating our media practitioners to be gender sensitive and inclusive, remove gender biases and promote women empowerment and gender equality. NBE/(MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
