Bontoc LGU holds campus journalism training

BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA)-- Eighty-five student journalists from different schools public and private  in this capital town participated in a two-day Campus Journalism training at the Provincial Multipurpose Hall here.

Organized by the Local Government Unit of Bontoc through the Municipal Information Office, the activity aimed to enhance the journalism skills of the students and to prepare them for the  Division Schools Press Conference  scheduled this April.

The participants are students from the Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School, ALBAGO National High School (NHS), Dalican NHS, Guina-ang NHS, Mainit NHS, Talubin NHS, Tocucan NHS, Saint Vincent’s High School Department and XiJEN College-Senior High Department.

Sharing their knowledge and skills to the aspiring journalists are Valerie Jane L. Taguba of the Philippine Information Agency on News Writing, Tyronne Glenn C. Lawey from the Provincial Tourism Office on Feature Writing, Angel B. Baybay from the Provincial Government on Sports Writing, and Juvy T. Lopez from the Bontoc LGU on Photojournalism.

Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong urged the participants to enjoy and learn from the said training.

“Take all the advantages from this activity because with this, you are improving your skills and talents. That is what we want, and we hope you enjoy,” he said.

“Our greatest investments are not only in infrastructures but our children. I earnestly believe that this training is an avenue for you to develop your journalism skills. It is my fervent hope and prayer that you maximize your potential to become successful in the future,” the mayor added.

He also expressed support to the continuous conduct of journalism training in the municipality.

“When this training was proposed, the municipal government readily approved the program. We assure you that there will be more to come,” Tudlong said.

It was learned that Bontoc is the only LGU in Mountain Province that provides funds for campus journalism trainings. (JDP/VJLT-PIA CAR)
