CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--A total of 2,254 jobs are at stake in the Northern Mindanao leg of the 'Trabaho-Turismo-Asenso!' Philippine Tourism Job Fair of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) set on March 30-31, 2023 at the Limketkai Center.
Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said 70 local companies and business establishments have already signified to participate in the job expo.
"As of today, we have a total number of 70 employers, 23 [employers] for below 10 vacancies and would be interviewing on the spot. For the 10 vacancies and above, we have 47 employers that are big tourism industry partners," she said in a press conference, March 28.
Accordingly, available positions are in hotel and restaurant management, sales and marketing, front office, accounting, human resource, general management, administrative assistance, food production, housekeeping, maintenance, purchasing, bookkeeping, and engineering. There are also several openings for drivers, mechanics, welders, electricians, baristas, bartenders, cashiers, waiters, and attendants.
Aside from the jobs fair, a cultural exhibit gallery and performances, craft demonstrations, a coffee bar offering free Bukidnon coffee, and a food display are also set to spice up the two-day event.
National agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), PhilHealth, Pag-ibig Fund, and Social Security System (SSS), among others, were likewise tapped for assistance in the processing of clearances and other necessary documents required from the applicants.The 'Trabaho-Turismo-Asenso!' jobs fair aims to close the gaps caused by job loss due to the pandemic and fill essential job vacancies in the gradually recovering tourism industry. It will be held simultaneously in three different cities across the country.
"This is a major project of DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco to be able to help displaced workers and of course potential tourism workers to avail of jobs in the industry in one setting," Unchuan added. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
