CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - This premier city of Isabela is once again hosting the 2023 Cagayan Valley Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges (CAVRASUC) games after hosting the one-week Philippine Athletic Championships last March 21-26, 2023.

The opening ceremony of the 2023 CAVRASUC was held on March 27, 2023, participated in by almost 1, 500 athletes, performers, coaches, and officials from the Isabela State University, Quirino State University, Cagayan State University, Nueva Vizcaya Stae University, Batanes State College and Philippine Normal University - North Luzon campus held at City of Ilagan Sports Complex.

The theme for this year’s CAVRASUC games and socio-cultural festival is “Unity and Diversity: Harnessing the Power of Culture Arts and Sports for Sustainable Development in the Region.” 

City of Ilagan Mayor Josemarie L. Diaz warmly welcomed the delegates saying it is a pride and honor of the City of Ilaga city  to host the CAVRASUC for the 3rd time.

Diaz said the city government officials thanked the CAVRASUC officials for choosing the city as the venue for sports competition of athletes all over the region as he offered the visitors to visit the primary tourism sites in the city.

He assured the delegates their security while enjoying the stay in the city for several days.

Meanwhile, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 2 Director Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, who represented CHED Chairman J. Prospero De Vera, said the holding of sports events in SUCs are included in the school curriculum.

"Outweigh the outcome of the game, winning or losing is always be part of the game," Domingo said.

After the opening program, the raising of institutional flags were administered by the SUC presidents, and Vice Presidents for Academics, Sports and Socio-cultural directors, and the SUC representatives lit the friendship flame through a relay race signaling the formal opening of the CAVRASUC games.
