DOT-10 underscores impact of tourism jobs fair

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 emphasized the importance of conducting the tourism jobs fair in revitalizing the tourism industry.

"Dako gyud kaayo'g impact not only directly sa makatrabaho but also to our industry in general, kay siyempre, pag makatrabaho na, naa na siya'y buying power. It will really have a ripple effect," said Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan in a press conference, March 28.

(It really has a big impact not only directly on those who will be hired but also on our industry in general, because, of course, when one has a job, he has buying power. It will really have a ripple effect)

She also said people who have jobs might go on vacation when they get paid, which will help the tourism industry.

Citing tourism as one of the biggest contributors to the gross national product, Unchuan said they are working hard to fulfill their mandate, which is to increase the number of tourists in the country so that businesses will thrive and more jobs will be created.

One of DOT's latest initiatives to revive the economy is its tourism job fair program, which aims to link job seekers to employment opportunities in the recovering tourism industry.

The job fair is conducted in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment and will be held simultaneously in key areas of the country, March 30-31. The northern Mindanao leg will be staged at the Limketkai Center Atrium.

Unchuan said that at the event, people looking for work will be able to find more than 2,000 job openings in tourism and related industries. (APB/PIA-10)
