CBMS geo-tagging project up in Belison, Libertad towns

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting the 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) geo-tagging of service institutions and infrastructure, government projects, and natural resources in the towns of Belison and Libertad.

Provincial Statistics Officer Randy M. Tacogdoy said that the activity aims to generate accurate and relevant spatial and non-spatial (attribute) data of existing service institutions and infrastructure, government projects, and natural resources located in and within the vicinity of barangays.

It also hopes to produce a listing of the features and structures on the maps and to generate maps using the collected information for subsequent planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring for economic development and poverty alleviation using grassroots-level information.

A five-day Regional Level Training on 2022 CBMS Geotagging was conducted and attended by CBMS focal persons, mapping focal persons, a trainer from PSA central office, and map data collectors.

The activity started last March and will end in May 2023, wherein Map Data Collectors (MDCs) will geotag all service institutions, infrastructure, and government projects that were listed and submitted by barangay officials using the CBMS Barangay Profile Questionnaires (BPQs).

Facilities and government projects that were not indicated in the BPQ but will be found during the field validation will also be covered.

Using Global Positioning System (GPS)-equipped tablet computers with PSA-developed applications, relevant and timely information about service facilities, government projects, and natural resources are captured and collected at the local level.

The towns of Belison and Libertad are both PSA-funded CBMS implementers in the province of Antique. (JBG/PSA/PIA-Antique)
