NTC6 urges the public to register SIMs as deadline nears

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Regional Office 6 invites the public to hurry and register their Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) amid the approaching April 26 deadline.

In a radio program, NTC6 regional director Engr. Leah Dela Cruz-Doromal warned that unregistered SIMs will be deactivated and become unusable by the date set by the law or 180 days after its effectivity on December 27, 2022.

Doromal said that cellular service users unable to register their SIMs can still plead for SIM reactivation five days after the deadline but added that such hassle can be avoided by registering as early as possible.

She also urged the public to be meticulous and extra cautious in opening text messages from unknown numbers which may contain malicious links, especially since Public Telecommunications Entities (PTEs) already provided the official SIM registration links for their respective prepaid subscribers.

For Globe, prepaid users may visit https://new.globe.com.ph/ simreg, https://smart.com.ph/simreg for Smart Communications and Talk ‘N Text (TNT), and https://dito.ph/RegisterDITO for DITO Telecommunity.

To register, prepaid users need to prepare a valid government-issued identification, personal SIM attached to an internet-capable mobile phone with a camera, and personal information.

Considering the personal data collected by the PTEs, Doromal assured the public data that the private information of subscribers is protected by Republic Act 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and said that the handling of which is the responsibility of the telecom service providers.

For postpaid plans, Globe subscribers only need to send “SIMREG” to 8080, while “YES” to 5858 for Smart subscribers.

To help those without internet connectivity and internet-ready devices

with cameras, NTC6 and the telcos will have another Facilitated SIM Registration event in the province – April 12 in Belison Covered Gym, Belison town and April 13 in Anini-y Plaza, Anini-y town from 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.

Doromal also said that telco outlets and their authorized dealers and retailers in different municipalities help in the conduct of SIM registration.

The official then enjoined the youth to assist older members of the family with their SIM registration to make sure that connection with friends and kin remains uninterrupted but reminded those seeking help to be wary of strangers who may keep personal information and use it for ill purposes.
