Antique’s capital preps for comeback of ‘Tiringbanay’ fest

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The local government of this capital town is gearing up for the return of its religious festival “Tiringbanay” for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

Four years since the festival was taken to the streets, overall festival chairperson Mayor Elmer Untaran, in a press conference on April 14, said that this year’s celebration offers numerous events for San Josenhons and visitors to experience and enjoy.

Untaran noted that Tiringbanay, in addition to being an event of religious significance and economic importance, is an opportunity for the people of Antique to come together, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate the feats of the municipality in the past years.

With the theme “Hugyaw kag Pagdayaw,” Unaran added that Tiringbanay 2023 intends to give honor and praises to God for the successes of the municipality in the fields of local governance and economic development, as well as to acknowledge the persistence and resilience of San Josenhons amid the different crises they had survived in the past.

Festivities begin as early as April 15 with the “Fiesta sa Banwa” food fest at the

Evelio B. Javier (EBJ) Freedom Park and basketball tournaments at the Barangay 2 Gymnasium and Brgy. San Fernando Basketball Court.

A job fair is also scheduled at Robinsons Antique on April 28, and commencing on the same date is a four-day trade fair at the Tiripunan in San Jose Business Park, which will feature the products of local farmers and enterprises.

The highlights of this festival will kick off on April 29 with a float parade and street dancing to be participated by local government officials, civil society organizations (CSOs), members of the private and business sector, national government agencies (NGAs), and other community stakeholders.

The parade will end at EBJ Freedom Park for the opening program, which will then be followed by the 10th Tiringbanay Motocross at Funda-Dalipe Race Track and the “Lin-ay kang San Jose de Buenavista 2023” at EBJ Freedom Park in the evening.

The second day of the highlights, April 30, will also be packed with events such as the “cosmoPAWlitan” dog show, auto moto show, a vespera mass and procession at the St. Joseph Cathedral, and a music fest with Kultura and pop band Cueshe.

The festival will cap on Labor Day, May 1, with its religious fiesta celebration, the “Sadsad Sinadya: Workers’ Day Out” around EBJ Freedom Park where spirited drinks, face and body painting, bubble

foams, and a lot more await merrymakers, and a fireworks display to be graced by the pop band This Band.

Meanwhile, Tiringbanay 2023 coordinator Fe Corazon Malaya Tacogdoy assured peace and order with the help of local peacekeeping forces and urged the public to observe necessary health protocols throughout the festivities. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
