DOLE Ilocos to hold Labor Day job fairs

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Ilocos will conduct job fairs across the region for the celebration of Labor Day on May 1.
 
Three job fairs will be conducted in Pangasinan, including the municipalities of Lingayen and Sta. Barbara, and Urdaneta City; and one in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur which will be the main event for the Labor Day celebration.
 
According to DOLE Ilocos assistant regional director Honorina Dian Baga, the Labor Day job fair is an annual event of the agency which aims to contribute to the economic growth of the country by providing employment opportunities to jobseekers.
 
“Ang main objective natin for the job fair ay makatulong sa pag-angat ng ekonomiya ng ating bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng maraming oportunidad sa ating mga kababayan,” said Baga.
 
Baga also extended her appreciation to the employers who initially registered to take part in the upcoming event.
 
She said, “Sa ating mga employers, maraming salamat po and we hope you continue your partnership with us, as we provide more employment opportunities for our jobseekers.”
 
Meanwhile, DOLE is still looking for more partner employers for the job fairs.
 
DOLE will also be partnering with the Department of Tourism for their ‘Turismo, Asenso, Trabaho’ program to fill in tourism-related job vacancies.
 
Moreover, it is also expected to have a one-stop-shop services from partner agencies like Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Education (DepEd), Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG Fund, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), among others to cater the requirement needs of the clients.
 
Aside from the job fairs, other programs will also be highlighted at the main event in Vigan City like the selling of agricultural products at cheap prices to support the KADIWA project of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
 
Further, the Labor Day job fairs will also highlight the awarding ceremony for the livelihood projects of DOLE like the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Sting Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), and the Government Internship Program.
 
Labor Day is a public holiday in the country to celebrate the Filipino Workers. (JCR/AMB/KDM/PIA Region 1)
