32 Dumagueteño seasonal workers leave for South Korea

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, April 18 (PIA) -- The first batch of over 32 seasonal farm workers from Dumaguete City arrived in South Korea on April 15.

Yeongdong-gun Mayor Jeong Yeong-Chul along with other officials welcomed the workers as South Korea is in need of fruit and vegetable farmers.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo personally met with the farm-trainees before they left for the Mactan-Cebu International Airport to convey his good wishes and arrange for their safe trip.

However, before the workers left for Yeongdong-gun, they underwent a series of sessions to learn the basic culture and language of South Korea for further immersive training overseas.

The next batch of farm workers will be leaving for South Korea next week to join their compatriots.

Dumaguete’s sister city Yeongdong-gun is known to produce quality grapes with high sugar content and sweet aroma, thus it is home to the best wineries in South Korea. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
