In Western Visayas, more than 5.3 million out of 5.6 million targets or 94% have been fully vaccinated. However, booster dose coverage remains low at 17.53% for first booster, and 1.92% for second booster.
The second booster doses are given to health care workers, senior citizens, individuals with co-morbidities, and other vulnerable groups.
DOH 6 re-emphasized the need for COVID-19 vaccination as other areas in the country noted an increase of COVID-19 cases especially among the unvaccinated.
In the region, DOH 6 said cases and health care utilization rate remain low but it continues to remind the public to sustain the COVID 19 preventive and control measures.
Aside from vaccination, DOH 6 is still encouraging the wearing of face masks when in crowded and closed spaces or gatherings to mitigate transmission not only of COVID-19 but also of other respiratory diseases.
