‘EduAKSYON’ bares DepEd preps for 2023 WVRAA

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) 6 recently held an online regional press conference dubbed as “EduAKSYON” (Aksyon at Solusyon para sa Edukasyon) imparting some of its preparations for the upcoming 2023 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Makato, Aklan.

DepEd 6 revealed that about 6,000 delegates, composed of 4,587 athletes, coaches, trainers, and chaperones across the provinces in Western Visayas, are expected to join in the Meet together with some technical officials forming part of the number.

Considering the extreme heat due to the summer season, DepEd 6 assures that health and safety measures are in place for the sporting event that will officially kick-off on April 26 and ends on April 30.

The Aklan Schools Division Office (SDO), as the host for this year, has already coordinated with local health service providers to respond should there be emergencies that will occur in the entire event duration.

Ambulances will be on standby in every sports venue and blood pressure checks will be available for the officiating personnel.

The provincial hospital of Aklan Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital will cater severe emergency cases of event participants through the provision of special lanes.

DepEd 6 regional director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico noted that participating athletes were made to undergo medical evaluation to ensure their conditions.

Likewise, ocular inspection of the billeting areas has already been made by respective officials per province to ensure safety and availability of facilities for the upcoming event.

He added that minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks will still be observed, particularly for indoor activities and non-contact sports.

To note, there will be 24 sporting events intended for secondary and 15 for elementary level, with over 2000 medals at stake.

Meanwhile, Uytico shared that this year’s WVRAA Meet is anchored to the theme

“Championing Excellence Through Sports” aiming to exemplify excellence in sports and create champions in values, techniques, and strategies.

He also expressed his thanks to the local media for helping the DepEd 6 in disseminating relevant information to the community, citing that EduAKSYON creates opportunity for government and the media to engage with one another for the improvement of communication plans particularly centered on the programs and activities related to education.
