Guinsiliban to boost mountain tourism, cultural sites

CAMIGUIN (PIA)--Following the Lenten season, Guinsiliban Tourism Municipal Officer Donnabelle C. Francisco tackles their revamped tourism development plan for 2023, which includes preserving the island’s ecotourism, cultural tourism, and mountain tourism, during the Come Again sa Camiguin, radio program.

Alongside the new branding of Camiguin's tourism campaign, "Camiguin Isle Be There," the local municipality strives to keep the island clean and safeguard the marine protected area.

"We’re very happy to support the rebranding, and with the fresh start sa pandemic, niabot gyud si Camiguin Isle Be There for such a long time na-priso ta aning COVID-19. Na-isolate pud ang isla so naa si Camiguin Isle be There," Francisco said.

(We’re very happy to support the rebranding, and with the fresh start in the pandemic, Camiguin Isle Be There’ finally came after such a long time we’ve become imprisoned with COVID-19. The island was isolated, which is why it's called ‘Camiguin Isle Be There’)

During holy week, there were about 1,228 devotees who climbed Mt. Ilihan in Guinsiliban, also known as Monte Calvario or Mt. Calvary, one of the highest and most popular mountains in Camiguin.

Guinsiliban LGU also plans on integrating coastal communities that are known for their distinct specialties, such as the clams in Barangay Cabuan, Kinilaw and Surol in Barangay Cantaan, Liong, and many others.

The municipality expresses gratitude to partner agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Municipal Agriculture Office for their collaborative efforts by conducting 'Scubasurero' clean-up drives and scuba diving underneath the ocean floor to assess seagrass and protect marine resources. Guinsiliban LGU continues to work on several initiatives and projects for the new Camiguin tourism campaign, "Camiguin Isle Be There," as the municipality intends to further develop local tourism by promoting the island's services internationally during the Come Again sa Camiguin radio program.
