Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, celebrating 16 years as critical habitat, protected area

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) –The 16th anniversary celebration of the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) celebrated its 16th anniversary as a critical habitat/protected area coincided with the observance of Earth Day on April 22, 2023.

LPPWP, considered as ecotourism attraction in Metro Manila seeks to educate the public about “the interaction between people and wildlife… including responsible travel to natural areas… to conserve the environment and improve the well-being of local people,” the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said in a statement.

Senator Mark Villar who graced the occasion reiterated commitment to protect and conserve the wetland park.

The celebration was divided into two parts: a cleanup activity and environmental lectures. During the second part of the program, the mechanics for the Eco-Art Challenge: Upcycling Marine Litter for Wetland Protection contest was presented.

Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) founder and environmental advocate, Cecille Guidote-Alvarez and Frenchman Hubert d'Aboville of Together Ensemble delivered  lectures on investing in our planet, the theme for this year’s Earth Day celebration.

It was attended by more than 200 participants, including members of the LPPWP Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), the Office of Senator Cynthia A. Villar (OSCA), Villar Sipag Foundation, Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP), Society for the Conservation of Wetlands (SCWP), the city governments of Las Piñas and Parañaque, barangay officials, and civil society organizations.
