'Produkto Antiqueño’ OTOP hub reopens in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Tourists and travelers transiting here  have now additional access to locally produced food and non-food products, with the re-launch of the Produkto Antiqueño-One Town, One Product (OTOP) Hub Pasalubong Center, April 25.

With the intent to promote and enjoin the public in patronizing Antique-made products, the pasalubong center was first opened in 2015 but had to be closed in December 2022 for the building renovation and expansion.

San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Officer (MEEDO) Darcy Bungay said that the renovation and expansion project was completed in mid-April this year but the re-opening was scheduled during the Center's 8th anniversary.

The project worth approximately P6 million was funded by the local government of San Jose de Buenavista and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) under the Department of Tourism (DOT), added Bungay.

The DOT-TIEZA funding was secured by then Antique Lone District Representative and now Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, who is a strong advocate and supporter of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) alongside her successor Rep. Antonio Legarda, Jr.

The two-storey center now has an improved façade, a mini-coffee area on the left wing, a mini-boutique on the right wing, and the main pasalubong area at the center, with the second floor intended as storage and potential expansion location if more entrepreneurs decide to bring their products in.

Apart from being a venue for local entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products to greater masses, the pasalubong center guarantees increased profits as it is strategically located across the intermodal passenger terminal at the Antique Tourism Trade and Investment Promotion (ATTIP) Center.

For her part, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique OIC-provincial director Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal said that the Produkto Antiqueño Pasalubong Center is also the One Town, One Product Next Generation (OTOP Next Gen) hub for the Province of Antique.

OTOP Next Gen, a DTI program that seeks to level up products and services built from the successes of the OTOP first generation, refers to a package of assistance to capacitate MSMEs in the different aspects of business operations, including product development and market promotion.

Produkto Antiqueño-OTOP Hub Pasalubong Center, since its establishment, has helped small businesses thrive amid growing competition and changes in the market, said entrepreneur-consignor Gloria Juayang from San Remigio town.

Juayang then expressed her gratitude to the local government of San Jose de Buenavista under Mayor Elmer Untaran, public officials, and government entities instrumental in improving the state of the pasalubong center, which she hopes will help Antiqueño products become known across the country.
