BONTOC, MOUNTAIN Province (PIA)— In celebration of Earth Day and to raise awareness among the community on the importance of planting and saving trees, members of the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) - Bontoc Chapter with uniformed personnel planted hazelnut seedlings at Mt. Fato in barangay Maligcong on Saturday, April 22.
The seedlings were provided by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer - Office of the Municipal Agriculturist.
Together with personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Police Station, Mountain Province District Jail and 2nd Mountain Province Provincial Police Mobile Force, the KKDAT members also conducted weeding activity on the seedlings planted in August 2021.
The activity also aims to show concern for the environment and lessen the adverse consequences of climate change.
KKDAT – Bontoc shared that their involvement in environmental protection has great impact for the cause since it raises awareness about the environment, develop strong bonds and a sense of unity and their leadership skills.
“The youth can a have significant impact on the environment when involved in protection or tree planting activities and clean-up drives. Their involvement can lead to increased awareness, positive environmental impact, community involvement, leadership development, and a sense of accomplishment. These benefits can have lasting impacts on the environment and the well-being of individuals and communities.”
KKDAT-Bontoc plans to conduct more environmental-centered activities such as recycling activities making rugs out of used clothes and "plant pots" out of PET bottles.
Meanwhile, the KKDAT-Bontoc invites their fellow youth to join the KKDAT Community.
