DepEd-Aklan reveals Gulayan sa Paaralan winners

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd)–Aklan recently announced its winners for the "BINHI: Gulayan sa Paaralan Challenge" for public elementary and secondary schools in the province of Aklan.

The Kalibo Pilot Elementary School in Kalibo topped the challenge for the elementary category; while the Agdugayan Elementary School in Ibajay secured the second spot and in third place was Dangcalan Elementary School in Malinao.

For the secondary level, the Naile National High School in Ibajay was declared as the grand winner. It is followed by second placer -  Justicia Morales-Young National High School in Altavas and third placer- Lezo Integrated School in Lezo..

The schools that managed to secure the top spot each received P15,000 worth of school supplies, garden tools and seeds; while all second placers got P12,000 each worth of school supplies, garden tools and seeds and third placers got P10,000 worth of school supplies, garden tools and seeds.

The recipients of the  People’s Choice Award, which is a Special Category, were Lilo-an National High School in Malinao and Odiong Elementary School in Altavas

According to Aklan Schools Superintendent C. Buenafe, Jr., the BINHI: Gulayan sa Paaralan Challenge was an initiative of DepEd-Aklan pursuant to DepEd Memo N0. 95, series of 2018 “Sustaining the Implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools Nationwide.”

Buenafe said that the contest aimed to promote and enhance vegetation production in schools as well as to promote economic productivity, improve health and nutrition and wholesome environment.

Further, gulayan sa paaralan challenge was designed to increase knowledge, skills and appreciation of learners on the importance of gardening, and showcase small-scale food production models to replace purposely to promote food security.

Also, such project could encourage parents to improve the national status of their children.
