Laoag City gov’t preps for Farmers Festival

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Laoag City Agriculture Office is now preparing for the Farmers Festival  which is scheduled on May 22 to 24, 2023.

According to Engr. Shiela Opelac, head of the City Agriculture Office, said “Sa mga nakaraang taon, isang araw o half-day lang ang ating Farmers Festival. Pero this year, gusto natin bigyan ng highlight at appreciation ang mga farmers as well as mga fisherfolk sa Laoag so we prepared for a three-day Farmers Festival.”

During the festival, the City Agriculture office is planning to stage various talent competitions, motor parade, bangka-ton and raft race.

To culminate the festival, a distribution of agriculture equipment and inputs like fertilizer, seedlings, and pesticides to farmers and fisherfolk from the city will be staged.

“Ngayong taon, i-emphasize talaga natin ang contributions ng ating mga farmers and fisherfolk na pangunahing katuwang ng gobyerno sa paglaban at pag-prevent ng food crisis,” Opelac said.

Moreover, the City Government of Laoag is continuing its support services to the farmers and fisherfolk in the city through  distribution of fertilizers and the Asenso Laoageño Barangay Caravan.

The Asenso Laoageño is a barangay caravan where the different offices and departments of the city government of Laoag go to the different barangays to offer their services to the residents there.

The City Agriculture Office regularly joins the barangay caravan to bring free services like registration to the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA), and free vitamins and feeds to livestock raisers. (JCR/AMB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
