Panay town's 'Lingga-anay' set May 1 - 4

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- Panay town fiesta dubbed "Lingga-anay 2023" is back with its face-to-face festivities on May 1 to 4 to showcase the municipality's history, culture, talents of Pan-ayanon and to thank God for the bountiful graces received by its people.

"Lingga-anay" was coined for the celebration to capitalize the town's treasure locally called "Dakong Lingganay" which is the biggest Catholic church bell in Southeast Asia.

Panay mayor Vicente Bermejo, during a media interaction, April 26, said that to promote various fiesta activities, it is about time that Pan-ayanon will again experience the festivities despite the calamities and the pandemic that affected their town.

“Ang amon sa Council with the Vice Mayor, nga parehos sa natabo sa Capiztahan, ang mga tawo na hidlaw sang dutay nga kasadyahan (We, the local officials know, as what we observed in the province's Capiztahan celebration, that the people missed the festivities)," the mayor noted.

The four - day celebration includes Panay Product Expo, job fair, nightly food festival with live bands performances, Local Government Unit and Department of Education Nights, medical mission, drum and lyre exhibition, coronation night and fireworks display, among others.

Further, a concelebrated mass at the Sta. Monica Parish, motor and car show and Escotis Street Dancing will cap and highlight the last day of the festivities.

During a press conference, the local government introduced Ms. Marrielle Buenvenida Dolor as this year's Lingga-anay Fiesta Queen.

She is currently working as a Senior High School teacher at the Commissioner Luis R. Asis National High School in Panay town.

Aside from hosting a dinner of the gathering of priests from various parts of the country, the LGU has also invited Senators Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go and Francis Tolentino, and local officials to grace the activities. (JBG/PLF/PIA Capiz)
