
CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is expected to attend the advance celebration of the 121st Labor Day on Sunday (April 30) at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) has lined up three major activities such as job fairs to provide local and overseas job opportunities to Filipino workers.
An initial 73,779 job vacancies are up for grabs in the face-to-face job fairs to be participated in by 808 employers in 42 job fair sites nationwide.
The main job fair site is at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, where over 12,000 jobs will be offered by 125 employers on April 30.
DOLE, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Agriculture, will also host the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa to help workers buy commodities at lower prices.
Kadiwa enables the farmers to sell goods directly to consumers without the trader-intermediaries, allowing them to reap higher profits while still offering quality products at an affordable price.
DOLE will also lead the payout of assistance and salaries to beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program, Special Program for Employment of Students, and the Government Internship Program.
The labor department encourages jobseekers to be ready with the following application requirements: resume or curriculum vitae, certificate of employment for those formerly employed, diploma, and transcript of records.
Meanwhile, Filipino workers will be treated to free rides at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 on May 1, Labor Day.
According to DOLE, they have requested the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to provide free rides to Filipino workers on Labor Day.
DOLE said all public and private workers will be treated to free rides during peak periods from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on May 1 upon presentation of their company identification card or any valid government-issued identification card.
Passengers shall adhere to the usual frisking and baggage inspection by LRT Line 2 management and shall follow rules and regulations, including the mandatory wearing of face masks.
The labor department said jobseekers who will troop to the various job fair sites in the National Capital Region and workers who will report for work on Labor Day are anticipated to benefit from the free rides.
This year’s Labor Day is observed with the theme, “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino.” (pia-ncr)
