CAMIGUIN (PIA)--With the ongoing hot season in the Philippines, Mambajao Water District (MWD) General Manager Jocelyn Daleon recalled prior safety measures against El Niño, and further discussed the municipality’s developments to mitigate the current climate’s effect on the water supply here.
In Mambajao’s prior experience with El Niño in 2016, Daleon said they had to conduct water rationing, where they had to schedule the release of water among the municipality’s barangays. To avoid the repetition of such an event and ensure that there will be enough water supply for consumers, three large water reservoirs and main lines have been added since 2016.
"Aduna ta'y 12 ka spring sources, then aduna ta'y 13 ka mga land reservoirs nga diha nato gi-store ang atong mga water. Base sa experience nato sa 2016, diin nag-El Niño ta, naa ta'y mga reservoirs nga gipang-construct. Last year, nagamit na nato ang duha ka 150 cubic meters each na reservoir," said Daleon.
(In Mambajao, we have twelve spring [water] sources and thirty land reservoirs that store our water. Based on our experience in 2016, when we experienced El Niño, we constructed several reservoirs. Last year, we were able to use two reservoirs, which are 150 cubic meters each)
She assured the water’s cleanliness through their standard practice of applying chlorine to it on a 24-hour basis. They also do monthly bacterial tests by delivering water samples to laboratories in Cagayan de Oro City.
Daleon further called on the public to support the water district through water conservation practices in their own homes. She advised the consumers to report to MWD in the event of water leakages.
