Zambo’s GAD officers join SOGIEfy training of trainers

ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 3 (PIA) -- In a bid to create a more inclusive and accepting society, the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) of the Local Government Unit of Zamboanga participated in the SOGIEfy Gender and Development Training of Trainers organized by Mujer LGBT Inc.

Held in Iloilo City, the training capacitated members of select LGUs in mainstreaming for sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) principles in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of government-led programs, projects and activities. This is to make sure all genders are represented in procedures and systems, ensuring that services benefit everyone.

SOGIESC training helps individuals understand and respect the different sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions of others, which maps into creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. By providing education and awareness on SOGIE, people can break down stereotypes, reduce discrimination, and promote equality for all.

In attendance were Mr. Wilfredo Aporongao, GAD Focal of LGU Zamboanga City, Mr. Cyril Ganob - GFPS Secretariat, Mr. Timothy Arquiza, City Health Office GAD Coordinator and Mr. Kenneth Vinson Pia – City Engineer’s Office GAD Coordinator.

The team thank the organizers for making the event possible and for all the learning experiences shared. They acknowledge how the convergence would be of greater help to all of the participants through replication of best practices from other cities and municipalities.

The city's GAD Focal Point System promise to continue advocating for SOGIE training and implementing it in various settings to create a more inclusive and accepting society. They likewise, assure that they will continue to promote for inclusive change, progress and development in the city for the betterment of everyone.
