Bae Noni Lao of LDS represents women in BARMM council for elders

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Lanao del Sur Peoples' Council (LDSPC) paid tribute to Bae Nabiha "Noni" Lao for being chosen as the women's sector representative in the Bangsamoro Council of Elders.

The tribute was held back-to-back with the LDSPC's post-eid celebration and launching of the Bae a Tumanor sa Ranaw, May 2, at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall.

The Bangsamoro Organic Law provides for the creation of the Council of Elders that shall advise the BARMM chief minister on matters of governance. The Council shall be composed of the Congress of the Philippines from the BARMM; provincial governors, and mayors of chartered cities in the region; and sectoral representatives including women.

"Sinala at pinagpilian ang mga kababaihan dito sa Bangsamoro at dito napili sa mga Meranao ang woman leader representative of Bangsamoro Council for Elders na si Bae Noni Lao. Dala-dala niya tayo sa achievement na ito," said Bangsamoro Women Commissioner for Lanao Samaona P. Unda.

[The women here in the Bangsamoro were screened and selected and the Meranaos, Bae Noni Lao, was selected as the woman leader representative of the Bangsamoro Council for Elders. She carries us to this achievement.]

Acting provincial governor Mohammad Khalid Rakiin-Adiong also congratulated Lao for her appointment and assured her that the provincial government will work hand-in-hand with the council in promoting peace and development not just in Lanao del Sur but the entire BARMM.

Meanwhile, Lao expressed her gratitude for the continuous support given by the Provincial Government to her and the LDSPC.

She is also thankful that she was chosen to represent the women's sector in the BARMM Council of Elders.

"Sa mga past wala po tayong sectoral representative for women. It's only now in 2023. We are really fortunate and honored na tayo 'yung nakuha. Naselect to represent the women all over BARMM. Isa din itong opportunity sa ating mga Meranao and we will try to reach out to all the women all over BARMM," she said.

This is also an opportunity for us Meranaos and we will try to reach out to all the women all over BARMM). (JND/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
