MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--City Mayor Majul Gandamra joined the call for parents to protect their children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
Gandamra reiterated the call during the city's launch of the "Chikiting Ligtas" campaign, a supplemental immunization activity to prevent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
He said the city government is doing its part to protect the health of its constituents, but parents must also do their share in preventing highly contagious diseases that may lead to grave complications.
"I would like to encourage our constituents, ang ating mga magulang na dalhin ang kanilang mga anak [vaccination areas] para maprevent natin ang mas malalang sakit gaya ng polio at tigdas," he said, citing that such diseases can be prevented through vaccines.
"Our children are not just our legacy to the world; they are the future leaders of our nation and prime movers of tomorrow, and we need to protect them from any sickness," he further said.
The city mayor also reminded parents to keep their surroundings clean, emphasizing that, aside from vaccination, cleanliness in the body and the surroundings also helps keep children from getting sick.
On the part of the city government, Gandamra said his administration will always put the welfare of the children as a top priority, especially in the provision of health and education services.
"As your mayor, I'm very happy to express my continued support for the MOH-BARMM and CHO's efforts to bring about a healthier future for the youth of Marawi City," he added. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
