Apayao lawmaker is outstanding UP Baguio alumni

BAGUIO CITY(PIA) -- The lone district representative of Apayao was recognized  as an Outstanding Alumni of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association – Northern Luzon Chapter Baguio this year.
 
Apayao Cong. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang received the outstanding alumni award from UP Baguio Chancellor Corazon Abansi and UP Alumni Association – Northern Luzon Chapter Baguio President Linda Bautista over the weekend in Baguio City.
 
The UP Baguio alumni association recognized Cong. Begtang for for “upholding honor and excellence in governance.”
 
“In recognition for her professional achievement and public service as a model of the ideals of an “Iskolar ng Bayan,” the recognition read.
 
Cong. Begtang was recognized for her efforts in the exemplary response on the COVID-19 and other programs she started during her term as provincial governor during the height of the pandemic in Apayao.
 
Among the accomplishments noted include the upgraded capacity of the health sector to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthened the collaboration between the national government agencies and the local government units in the province to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and ease its effects to the people of Apayao.
 

Last year, the Department of the Interior and Local Government(DILG)  commended the provincial government of Apayao for  its  efforts and sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The DILG-CAR noted that despite the surge of the COVID-19 in Apayao   the height of the pandemic, they were able to rise up and address the problems effectively and efficiently.
 
The effective response against the COVID-19 in Apayao was thru the efforts of the provincial and municipal Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATFs), the different national line agencies, local government units, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders thru the leadership of then Governor Begtang.
 
Apayao was also praised  for being one of the best provinces in terms of vaccination program implementation in the region. 
 
Representatives of the provincial government and the municipal government of Luna even shared their best practices particularly in the implementation of the vaccination program to other LGUs in the Cordillera region during the Joint Regional IATF – Regional Task Force – Regional Vaccination Operations Center meeting in the previous years.
 
Also noted  were Bulut-Begtang's  initiatives on prioritizing education by enacting laws for the establishment of more than a dozen independent public secondary schools in Apayao.
 
On demonstrating good governance, her continued assurance that all her work aspects that inclusion, equity, efficiency and participation are practiced were also recognized.(JDP/RMC PIA-CAR
