DILG6 cites WV RCSP benes’ best practices

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6 recently featured the success stories of four towns in Western Visayas that benefited from the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP).

The stories were part of the third episode of the DILG 6’s “Best Practice Festival” via Zoom and Facebook live which aims to showcase the exemplary initiatives of local governance in the region.

In this episode, the towns of San Remigio in Antique, Cuartero in Capiz, Tubungan in Iloilo, and Hinoba-an in Negros Occidental presented, through video documentation, each of their RCSP success stories, highlighting the support and promotion of community-driven initiatives which are crucial to the development and peaceful communities.

The program was also in time with the DILG 6’s launching of the third module of the RCSP TV Aralan Series.

“The RCSP is an initiative that seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities to drive their own development and

peace-building processes. Through this program, communities are empowered to identify their own development and peace priorities and to access the resources and support they need to achieve their goal,” DILG 6 regional director Juan Jovian Ingeniero said.

In San Remigio town, the target barangay was Bulan-Bulan, a geographically isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA) formerly affected by insurgency, where identified recipients availed of livelihood support through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), while the Department of Health along with other government agencies conducted a Serbisyo Caravan, medical mission, and distributed pipes for water supply.

With the help of the provincial and national government, the LGU has also set aside funds to pave the road leading to the said village where the people are now having the convenience of traveling and bringing their produce to the town’s public market.

“The community is now enjoying what you gave to us. As a local chief executive here, I am also thankful to all of you… and I hope what we did can also help some other LGUs to accomplish the whole-of-nation approach under EO 70,” San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said.

Meanwhile, through their respective RCSP core teams, various government programs and services were also provided in four target barangays of Cuartero town in Capiz namely Mahunodhunod, Putian, San Antonio, and Carataya; Barangay Sangke in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental; and various target barangays of Tubungan, Iloilo province.

RCSP, being one of the flagship programs of the government under EO70 or the Whole-of-Nation Approach in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), is part of the convergence mechanism for the identification of issues in villages affected by insurgency, crafting barangay development plans, and implementing government programs and projects to resolve such issues.
