Ifugao targets more than 44K kids for the MR-OPV SIA

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - - The health resistance of more than 44,000 children in the province against measles, rubella or German measles and polio is expected to be boosted in the Department of Health -led Chikiting Ligtas campaign.

Ifugao targets to immunize 20,551 children aged 9 to 59 months for the measles rubella vaccine and 23,917 children from 0 to 59 months for the oral polio vaccine through the different municipal health offices in the ongoing Measles-Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR OPV SIA). 

Cherry Faith Apangchan of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) informed over Radyo Kiphodan 99.1 FM that as of May 5, 2023, MR-OPV SIA was able to serve 10,395 children out of the 44,468 target beneficiaries.

A total of 4,808 children aged 9-59 months were vaccinated for MR while 5,588 for OPV for percent coverage of 23.39% and 23.36% respectively. Vitamin A was also provided to 68 children (6-11 months) and to 499 children ages 12-59 months.

 Apangchan hopes that the province will achieve the target number of children or beneficiaries in this whole month of May activity.  She enjoins all parents to bring their children to the vaccination sites to be immunized for their protection against these vccine-preventable diseases.
