MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The National Housing Authority (NHA) awarded permanent housing units to 254 families displaced by the 2017 Marawi siege.
The NHA collaborated with the Lanao del Sur provincial government and the Marawi city government to build the shelters, which are located on a subdivision-like development.
"We have completed 682 permanent housing units in partnership with the city government of Marawi and the provincial government of Lanao del Sur, and today we are going to award 254 permanent houses," said NHA-9 and BARMM Regional Manager Al-Khwarizmi Indanan during the turn-over ceremonies, May 17.
The housing units are located in the wide expanse of Pamayandeg Ranao Residences at Dansalan (PRRD) in Barangay Kilala.
Indanan said they intend to award 100 permanent shelters every week thereafter to enable displaced families to start a fresh life in their new homes.
He added that recipients will be informed ahead of time since they must undertake social preparations before they can occupy their permanent houses.
The awarding of permanent shelters was among the highlights of this year's Marawi Week of Peace celebration. Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Assistance Secretary (Asec) Melissa Aradanas, Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Field Office Manager Asec. Felix Castro, and City Mayor Majul Gandamra, who reminded the recipients to take good care of the houses as the government gave them to them for free, attended the said event.
