Ivisan town opens 'Patio Beach'

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The local government unit of Ivisan town thru its Municipal Tourism Office (MTO) led the inauguration and blessing of a municipal government- run beach resort, May 19, at Barangay Basiao of the said town.

The new tourist attraction named "Patio Beach" is one of the heritage sites of the municipality and is registered with the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Capiz police director Col. Jerome D. Afuyog, Jr. and Ivisan town mayor Felipe Neri Yap lead the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open to the public the new tourist attraction in town.

The property is a national cultural interest as according to the local folks, the area used to be a burial ground during the Japanese occupation.

It used to be a “patyo,” a local term for cemetery.

Later, Patio Beach became a preferred destination for picnic, swimming and relaxation with its fine white sand and crystal clean water.

It has also become a view deck for the best view of the sea and sunset due to its elevated or hilly geographical location.

During the program, Ivisan mayor Felipe Neri Yap conveyed his appreciation to the Capiz Provincial Government thru the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office as well as the MTO for the guidance towards the realization of the project.

"When the LGU developed it as a beach resort, the name Patyo was changed to “Patio” to describe the place as a viewing deck," said a backgrounder released by the local tourism office.

The municipality capitalizes on its many beach and inland resorts, fish cages, fresh seafoods, mangrove sanctuary and nature park as its tourist attractions come-on. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
