MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The city here is set to open its doors to the advancement of technology, with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) welcoming its new facility that gears towards fulfilling its mission of intensifying digitalization.
This is ensured as a recently completed building was turned over to DICT during the weeklong commemoration of this year’s Marawi Week of Peace and through the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program.
DICT-Lanao del Sur Focal for TFBM Engr. Abdul-Mohaimin Ismael said the infrastructure would serve as both the Network Operation Center (NOC) and the Digital Transformation Center (DTC).
He said the project aims to house the data center, which is the core facility that would operate and provide internet connectivity to government offices and public sites inside the most affected area.
Moreover, a series of training sessions would also be hosted here to capacitate and prepare the constituents as they enter the ICT industry.
Ismael likewise stated that the same building could act as a workspace for digital workers, scholars, and learners.
Meanwhile, DICT-12 and Mainland BARMM Regional Director Engr. Alimbzar Asum noted that at least 50 people with their respective computers can be accommodated in their places.
He said that even residents who have appropriate skills but have no internet connection or gadgets could use the ready building for their online work, while students would be allowed to have access as they could treat this facility as their digital library where they could do online research.
As his department formally accepted the new building, Asum, however, clarified that this project is not yet inaugurated as various equipment, such as computers and LED walls, is still yet to be positioned and the specific location of the infrastructure is not yet energized.
When everything is in place, the DICT regional director is positive that the city and its province will already have an edge in terms of technology.
"Makakaasa kayo na sa darating na panahon ay tayo ay hindi mapag-iiwanan when it comes to technology and connectivity (rest assured that as time passes by, we will not be left behind when it comes to technology and connectivity)," said Asum.
