MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)-- Local chief executives of the city government here and the province of Lanao del Sur hailed the Marawi Compensation Board (MCB) for approving the mechanism on how siege survivors can claim reparations for their damaged properties and loss.

The MCB held a ceremonial signing of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Republic Act No. 11696 or the Marawi Siege Victims Compensation Act of 2022 on Tuesday, May 23, in time for the sixth anniversary of the Marawi siege.

"It is great knowing the efforts you have made and the extra mile you took in completing the necessary policies for the implementation [of the law] to proceed smoothly," said Provincial Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. during the ceremony.

Adiong said he appreciates the important work the MCB is doing in assisting affected families from the most affected areas of the City. He also lauded the Board's engagement with civil society organizations in the crafting of the IRR and putting optimum attention to the needs of the Marawi residents.

"The more we conduct open, thoughtful, and well-collaborated dialogues on issues, the more our constituents and stakeholders will benefit," he further said.

With this, the Governor conveyed his support to the Board in ensuring the interests of the people of Marawi are well-promoted. 

City Mayor Majul Gandamra also expressed the same support and commitment to working closely with the MCB to make sure that every deserving constituent of Marawi that has lost their home, properties, and lives of their families is heard and given just compensation.

"I express gratitude to MCB for their compassion to the survivors and for acting swiftly in formulating the IRR. InshaAllah, your work is blessed as it involves justice for people and eases their pain," the mayor further said.

With the signing of the IRR, Gandamra added that this year's commemoration of the Marawi siege anniversary is bright and more meaningful to them. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
